Bio Sketch
CEHI Role
Dr. McDowell will advise and support the CEHI teams focused
on pain management and surgery best practices development.
As a director of the Texas Medical Institute of Technology,
which has co-founded the CEHI initiative, he will provide
guidance to the leadership team.
Medical Background
A graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center
at San Antonio, Dr. McDowell has been practicing medicine
for nearly 20 years. He is a specialist in Urology, Urologic
Oncology, Anesthesiology, and Pain Management.
Following training in Urology at the at the University of
Ohio, he undertook a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at the
M.D. Anderson Tumor Institute in Houston, Texas. After practicing
as a Urologic Oncologist for 5 years in Austin Texas, he trained
as an anesthesiologist and undertook fellowship in pain management.
He is currently practicing as a pain specialist in Ohio.
He has served as an instructor at the University of Ohio
for both the Department of Urology and the Department of Surgery.
He has also served as the Director of Sabine Urology Outpatient
Clinic and the Chief of Urology at Brackenridge Hospital,
Austin.
Dr. McDowell has been involved in numerous areas of research
including breakthrough work at the Southwest Foundation for
Research and Development as well as the Department of Cell
Biology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
A frequent speaker and educator in pain management, Dr. McDowell's
experience enables him to help clinicians optimize care process
with the latest state of the art techniques and technologies.
Dr. McDowell's unique training in multiple fields critically
important in emergency care uniquely equips him to provide
great value to the CEHI best practices development efforts.
